As we travel towards Kakadu National Park this morning, our first introduction to the local environments and wildlife is a wetland cruise on the Mary River. Teaming with bird life and displaying an abundance of local flora, we board our skippered craft to admire & photograph this specialist habitat. After our morning cruise, we continue on towards Kakadu, stopping en route for a healthy picnic lunch and soon entering the National Park. We spend some time at the Bowali information centre in Jabiru, having a brief look around and introducing you to the many and varied aspects of world heritage acclaimed Kakadu. This afternoon we travel north to Kakadu’s most renowned cultural site, Ubirr Rock, where we lead you on an amazing cultural expedition through ancient occupational shelters showcasing Aboriginal rock, illustrating our Aboriginal culture and lifestyles spanning millennia. After our cultural journey we ascend to the stunning Nardab lookout to witness a typically inspiring Kakadu panorama over the expansive Nardab floodplains. This stunning and diverse landscape is a photographers dream. Once we have taken in the Kakadu scenery, we travel to Cahills Crossing on the river border between Kakadu and Arnhem Land to spot the elusive crocodiles and whatever else is happening on the vibrant East Alligator River. We then make our way to our overnight accommodation for some well earned relaxation time and dinner.
We provide fresh healthy lunches, however while staying in hotel style accommodation you are required to purchase your own dinners and breakfasts. (Unless otherwise arranged)

We start our active day by driving the 4WD track to Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls, while the imposing Arnhem Land Plataea and escarpments begin to dominate the landscape. The last section of the 4WD track to these spectacular Kakadu icons is slow and challenging. Upon arrival at Twin Falls we hike the escarpment trail which takes us to the top of the Arnhem Land Plataea above Twin Falls. The highlight of this hike are the amazing views of the ancient Kakadu stone country and Twin Falls gorge carving its path through the plateau to the woodlands below. This is a truly stunning view of the striking Kakadu landscape, and of course a photographers paradise. While at the top of Twin Falls we also have access to a secluded clear freshwater stream for a safe croc free swim. After a refreshing swim we return hike and travel a short distance for a picnic lunch in a cool shady monsoon forest. After lunch we take a short 4WD journey to Jim Jim Gorge. Upon arrival we hike our way into the gorge and scramble our way to a beautiful white sandy beach and large plunge pool below the falls. At the plunge pool we have time for a swim while admiring the towering sandstone escarpments that surround us. After a swim and time on the beach, we return hike through the gorge to journey back along the 4WD track and return to our overnight accommodation.

This morning immediately after breakfast, we lead you into and around the Nourlangie Rock (Burrunguy) area. We view more remote Aboriginal cultural sites, with a mix of shorter walks and viewing points around the area. We climb Nawarlandja stone country lookout to witness another stunning Kakadu landscape from a very different, but no less dramatic perspective. After exploring the Nourlangie Rock area, we head further south in Kakadu to negotiate the 4WD track into Maguk. A short easy hike along Barramundi Creek surrounded by tall paperbarks and monsoon forests eventually brings us to another beautiful Kakadu waterfall with a large plunge pool. Surrounded by tropical vegetation nestled amongst the contrasting stone country, the waters of Maguk are not only a visual and photographic delight, but also incredibly enticing. It’s not hard to understand, after spending time here, why this natural oasis is still one of the favourite hunting, fishing and recreation areas for our local Aboriginal groups. After absorbing this tropical paradise, some spectacular photography opportunities and a refreshing swim, it’s time for us to return to our overnight accommodation to relax after another very active day

After breakfast we travel to the far South of Kakadu and venture into the South Alligator volcanic valley. A short 4WD adventure takes us through the Kakadu southern hills and basins. As we travel through this more recent volcanic valley, we note the distinct landscape and climatic differences to the northern Kakadu environments. We soon arrive at the beautiful Gunlom Falls with its two main features, a large plunge pool and sandy beach at the bottom of the waterfall, and the now infamous “infinity pool” at the top. The top hike takes us directly to the infinity pools and another stunning vantage point overlooking the breath taking southern Kakadu wilderness. After our final swim and admiring the great view, we are ready to round up our time in Kakadu and begin our return journey back to Darwin. We generally arrive back in Darwin in time for you to reflect on your Kakadu experience, and perhaps enjoy a dinner at one of Darwin’s may dining options.
