Broome being the popular resort holiday destination that it is, there is an enormous choice of accommodation available here for all tastes and budgets. Broome has a vast choice of tasteful luxury accommodation, and more mid- range options are springing up every year. We have put together a list of our favourite places to stay.
Firstly, visitors need to be aware that Broome is divided into two sections, the town side and the Cable Beach side. Both parts are at a distance of about 7kms from each other, so you will need to decide whether your preference is to be in town or close to Cable Beach. On the town side, you will be close to the town shopping center, shops, most cafes and restaurants and museums, while on the beach side, you have a couple of convenience stores, but mainly resorts and beach side dining options (find out more on what to do in Broome here). In saying that, a very affordable public bus service connects both parts of Broome, and many visitors will have a hire car, so getting around Broome should not be an issue for most.
McAlpine house is located in a quiet avenue of Broome town. The reason we really recommend their accommodation is because it is one of the last few hotels situated in an old traditional Broome style house. If you would like to experience real tropical Broome lifestyle, this is the place for you. The entire property is tastefully decorated in a marine theme that reflects the pearling history of Broome, and there are plenty of breezy, shady relaxation areas. You can have a refreshing dip in the pool and sunbathe amongst plenty of tropical greenery. The hotel is part of Pinctada and, with only 8 rooms, guarantees a very private and personalised experience. More over, a great breakfast buffet with plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, tasty natural yogurt etc. is included in the room price and will set you up for a day of exploring. McAlpine house would be considered as a mid range option for Broome standards, but we think that the tasteful property and friendly service makes for a five star experience.
Bali Hai Resort & Spa
The Bali Hai is a gem on the Cable Beach side of Broome, providing luxury resort style villas with an Asian flair. The hotel grounds are lush and green and provide a quiet and peaceful oasis to truly relax. This is a mid range option with a unique charm. The decor reflects Broome’s Asian influence and all villas are self contained, cool and private. As a little special, there is an outdoor shower in every villa. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the hotel also has a great restaurant and cafe. You can stay in a studio villa or book a two bedroom villa for the whole family. There is also a decent sized, shady pool to freshen up in.
For a tasteful and unique tropical oasis on the Cable Beach side of Broome, try the Billi. The Billi is one of Broome’s younger additions and another example of Broome’s world class accommodation. You can choose between their queen or king safari tent options or stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom self contained villa. The property is family friendly. We stayed in one of the Billi’s Safari Tents and is was a truly delightful experience. The tent is equipped with a super comfy bed and modern en-suite, and every tent has a big patio with sitting area. The modern safari style decor and surrounding greenery, as well as the decent sized pool, make this a perfect place to relax.
The Mangrove Hotel
The Mangrove Hotel is a great value option on the town side of Broome, in walking distance to the town center. One of the more affordable hotel options in Broome, the Mangrove still provides a feeling of resort luxury. The hotel’s location is elevated on a hill overlooking Roebuck Bay, and is the perfect place to stay if you are here for the Staircase to the Moon. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are decorated in bright colours with a marine feel. The amenities are modern and clean. During our stay here, the hotel staff has been very friendly and helpful. Perhaps the best thing about the Mangrove Hotel is the vast outside area with two pools, plenty of lounge chairs and chill out areas and a bar. The only downside here is that the midgys (sandflies) can be quite savage at low tide, so bring plenty of repellent.
Beaches of Broome
If you are looking for a budget option in Broome that is not your typical Backpacker hostel, Beaches of Broome is a modern and clean place to stay on the Cable Beach side of town. In addition to their dorm rooms, Beaches offer affordable twin and double rooms with en-suite, and breakfast and airport pick up are complimentary. We stayed here and were pleasantly surprised with the resort style outdoor area including a big pool and plenty of shade. The rooms are simple but clean and modern. This is not your typical Backpacker party place, but rather a laid back place to stay for budget consistent travelers and families. Needless to say that you won’t get the same luxury experience as you would in one of Broome’s high end resorts, but the complex has all you need as a base for your Broome holiday.
Of course, if you feel like splurging out on total luxury, the famous Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa is your best choice.
No matter where you stay in Broome, we trust you will have a relaxing and enjoyable time in this tropical beach paradise. And don’t forget to visit the spectacular Kimberley Region while you are here!
