The quiet Litchfield- does it exist?
Litchfield National Park, at only 1h drive out of Darwin, is a great destination for a quick escape to a tropical paradise! Lots of swimming and waterfalls with great infrastructure and short walks make this park particularly user friendly. Litchfield’s most popular swimming spots include Buley Rockholes, Florence Falls and Wangi Falls. Who ever visited these destinations in the high season, or even on a weekend, will know, however, that these gorgeous areas can get kind of busy. They are still great places to explore, and some of us might not mind making new friends in the plunge pools, but is there a quiet alternative?
There most certainly is! Examples include Sandy Creek, Walker Creek or the Cascades. These places are just as stunning as Buley or Florence, but without the crowds. Access to these areas is a bit more limited, as you will need a 4WD and you will need to be able go on a short walk to access them. These factors mostly keep the”blue esky brigades” away that frequently populate “Lunch-field” on a sunny weekend.
Great news for us! We have never minded a little hike trough tropical forests, especially if a pristine waterfall and plunge pool are waiting at the end! If you do not have a 4WD, you can always come on one of our private Litchfield or Kakadu & Beyond Tours, we will take you to “the quiet Litchfield”. There will be a good mix of popular attractions and less busy alternatives. We even provide snorkel masks and we will serve you up a nice healthy picnic lunch while you are enjoying the serenity! So what are you waiting for?
